Three challenging and interlinked issues of today are:
Global Warming and the increase of CO2 green house gas emissions
The degradation of our agricultural landscape caused by industrial farming
The link between increasing ill health and the rise of contaminants in the food we eat
Conventionally grown food has given us many benefits, but these have come at a great price. The quest to produce abundant food efficiently and cheaply on a massive scale has caused problems that are progressively worsening. Through the use of synthetic fertilizers and chemicals such as pesticides and herbicides, as well as heavy machinery to grow large monoculture, the following problems are threatening our very future existence.
Our food has lost 40 to 70% of the minerals and vitamins in the last 50 years
Our soils have lost most of the organic carbon.
Carbon is essential for healthy soils and water holding capacity.
Agriculture contributes 18% of all carbon dioxide emissions in Australia.
For every tonne of Organic Carbon that is lost, the soil releases 3.67 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
Beyond Organic is a network of farmers and practitioners dedicated to reverse effects of chemical farming, help with the transition to biological farming, and develop the market and distribution of fresh food.
Food that is balanced full of essential minerals and vitamins
Food that is alive with radiant vitality
Food that is nutritious and tasty
A farming system that puts life back into the food
